Creating WP-Ensure

I created WP-Ensure in 2015 after five years of running my own web development company. I wanted to make it as super easy for customers to get online and noticed that many of my customers were confused about hosting and domain management.

I first had the idea for WP-Ensure in 2015. My web development company had been running since 2010 and I noticed that many of my customers were confused about hosting and domain management. When you tried to throw WordPress security and maintenance into the mix and trying to advise them on how to best secure their website, I’d see their eyes glaze over.

Many people are not interested in maintaining the technical aspects of a website, yet every company needs one. Long gone are the days of static sites that only web developers can update and private CMS software just can’t beat the flexibility of open-source.

Customer Flexibility

Customers want to update their blog, add products and pictures themselves. I have found that by teaching and helping customers build their own sites, they can get started quickly and cheaply but later on when they need more specialized services such as a theme designed and coded to their specifications, I can help them with that too. This allows me to work with a great variety of customers from small single entrepreneurs to large associations. I love working with all of them. Every project gives me something to sink my teeth into.

Technical Support

I decided in 2015 to try and bridge the gap by helping customers maintain their sites and being available when they need me to be. It’s like having your own hosting and website, but with someone technical standing in the wings for when you need them.

I also decided to try and make it as easy as possible, by bundling everything they’d need in one package so no more of this ‘which package should I take’, ‘how much space do I need’, ‘how much bandwidth should I take’… I just wanted it to be as easy as possible.

I also wanted to stay in the spirit of open-source so instead of locking down WordPress or running all their customers from a WordPress multisite (like many WP management companies do) my customers have full admin access and can easily move their sites elsewhere, install any plugins and themes they want and generally enjoy the same rights as any self-hosted WordPress installation without any interference from me (unless I’m needed of course, or the website is hacked).

Competition

Managed WordPress hosting has become pretty common over the last few years in response to hacked websites and marketing agencies wanting to keep their customers satisfied long into the future. Not to mention a nice source of recurring revenue for the agencies. During the past few years, a lot of competition has sprung up. I don’t mind though. WP-Ensure has been growing steadily in the last four years and my tools have developed along with it. Slow and steady wins the race 🙂

I enjoy being able to give a personalized service to all of my customers. I enjoy helping them when they get stuck and keeping their sites running and updated. I enjoy working on the tools I have coded over the years to maintain so many sites and I look forward to the challenges of website security in the future. There’s never a dull moment.

Be sure to let me know if you have any questions about WP-Ensure or the work I do. You can also read customer case stories here to see ways I have helped customers keep their sites on track.
